My name is Alayna Weiss and I am honored to have been voted as HHES Teacher of the Year! I am very excited to be teaching Music at HHES. Music has always been one of my first loves. I received my B.F.A in Musical Theatre from East Carolina University in Greenville, NC. I have enjoyed a diverse career singing, acting, and dancing on stage professionally as well as on a community level all over the U.S.; including New York, Massachusetts, Arizona, Florida, New Mexico, Ohio, and now Mississippi. I even had the opportunity to perform on cruise ships. Since moving to DeSoto County 12 years ago, I have had the privilege of performing with DeSoto Family Theatre and Kudzu Playhouse and have received Allie nominations for my work. Additionally, I have directed numerous Allie nominated productions for Kudzu Playhouse as well as summer camp for DeSoto Family Theatre.

My family and I, comprised of my husband Victor, Max age 16, Graham age 13, and Grey age 9, are Southerners by choice and have adopted Hernando as home. Five years ago, when my youngest child began school, I started looking for ways to bring the knowledge I had cultivated in music and theatre to a broader scope of children and education seemed to be calling my name. I have had the opportunity of working with children from pre-school age to college and I have enjoyed each age group for different reasons. As I began the difficult task of narrowing down what age group I wanted to work within the realm of education, I decided to accept a position as a Literacy Interventionist in third grade at HHES. I worked with very talented teachers and learned a great deal over the years. Our current administrator, Mrs. Stephanie Gilder was instrumental in encouraging my growth as a teacher and I chose to become a certified teacher; later interviewing and accepting the position of Music teacher at the retirement of our beloved Jean Thomason.

My time as a Music teacher has been some of the most rewarding work I have ever had the privilege of doing and I look forward to every day that I get to sing, dance, play ukulele, laugh, and create with our incredible students
