CLASS OF THE WEEK

Mrs.Oakley's 2nd Grade Class

This first nine weeks has seemed to fly by. I guess time flies when you're having fun! Our class has been so excited to explore our science standards. This week we focused on the moon and how it rotates around our Earth. We used oreo cookies to represent the 8 phases of the moon!
In reading, the students have been doing an awesome job building their "read to self" stamina. Students get to choose a variety of "just right" books and pick their spot around the room. It's all about choice! Some students pick a pillow on the floor while others choose a stool or a chair. On Fridays, students enjoy reading with a flashlight during read to self time.
In math this week we learned about graphs and shapes. We had a fun time graphing items in the classroom, graphing M&Ms, and creating our own class graphs. We asked and answered questions based on our data. We also made shapes using a variety of materials. After reading a book about bubbles, we predicted if we could make shape bubbles. We tested our predictions by making shape wands and blowing bubbles.
