2019-2020 CEU CALENDAR      ***      CEU INFORMATION

The goal of the Continuing Education Department is to continuously increase student achievement through ongoing efforts to improve teacher effectiveness through quality professional development. The program includes continuing education classes at the individual schools and district level. Certified staff will be able to get the required Continuing Education Units (CEU) without ever leaving the district. Continuing education requirements regarding contract renewal and re-licensure and CEU opportunities are outlined at the hyperlinks above.

The DeSoto County Schools District will continue to offer you many CEUs throughout the year. We will be going through North Mississippi Education Consortium, Inc. at the University of MS to get the CEU certificates starting July 1, 2015. Our office will take care of the process for you. You will still sign up in MUNIS for your classes. We will have a calendar on our website of CEUs that we are offering.

Continuing Education Units (CEU's) will be awarded in a content area of certification (ex. math, science, special education, etc.) or in job/skills related areas such as pedagogy and skills essential for effective teaching and leadership (ex. computer technology, cooperative learning, learning styles, methodology, etc.) CEU credits should assist in improving education practices that lead to enhanced student learning and should provide opportunities for networking with other colleagues and professionals.

The Mississippi Department of Education, Office of Licensure recognizes CEUs awarded through an accredited CEU granting agency.  Any Continuing Education Office at a college, university, or community/junior college is an accredited CEU granting agency. When deciding to take CEU outside our district, make sure they are through a universities, colleges or community/junior colleges that is a CEU granting agency. On the MDE website, there is a resource list. Go to Educator Licensure > Continuing Education Units > Resource List.

Another source for CEUs is found at the MDE website main page. You can use the Mississippi e-LEARNING for Educators usually found in the right hand corner of the web page. It is found at and is a part of MS Public Broadcasting. These are also expectable CEUs.

The Mississippi Department of Education will not allow you to repeat a CEU  class and use it again to renew your license.

The MDE will only accept 0.5 CEU = 5 hours of instruction or more.
